ON-CAMPUS SAT BOOTCAMP: ENSURING STUDENTS THE BEST RESULTS IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME
This is a demanding twelve day course that is designed for an increase on our students SAT scores. We assure our students at least a 200 point improvement* in only twelve days time. Students will take practice tests, analyze college level articles, work through hundreds of math problems and study over 1500 SAT vocabulary words. Columbia Education’s SAT Bootcamp focuses not only on improving SAT scores but also a keeping a healthy mind and body at the same time, by our students participating in special programmed physical activities. We are offering room and board to our students, to better accommodate our students during the duration of this course. The reason behind us highly encouraging our students to live on campus during Columbia Education’s SAT Bootcamp is because we want to provide our students with the best studying environment to help our students avoid distractions at home. Our students are ensured the best for their studies and their physical health with the specialized bootcamp program that we have designed at Columbia Education. The typical daily schedule begins at 7:00am and ends at 10:00pm. Spaces are limited for this special program, so be sure to be one of the first to sign up!
Columbia Education’s SAT Preparation offers students an outstanding preparation program for the SAT at an excellent value. Learn powerful test-taking techniques and strategies for improving your score. We prepare for the three sections of the SAT: math, critical reading, and writing. For the math section, you will review the concepts of algebra and geometry. The critical reading preparation stresses vocabulary, reading comprehension, and grammar skills. We prepare for the writing section by practicing the timed essay and reviewing grammar, usage and word choice. Student essays are scored according to College Board standards. This course meets every Friday for 4 hours and Saturday for 4 hours for four weeks each session. There are two continuous sessions of this program over the course of the summer.
This course is for 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th graders who wish to maximize scoring potential by becoming familiar with the PSAT. Learn strategies for general test taking as well as for approaching specific types of questions found in both the math and verbal parts of the test. Students will take practice tests, review answers and have an opportunity to ask questions. In class we will directly concentrate on critical reading and how to tackle that part of the exam successfully, because it is usally the toughest. The class also includes review of algebra and geometry concentrating on similar problems found on previous PSAT tests. This course meets every Saturday, 4 hour sessions for 8 weeks.
At Columbia Education, we understand that our students are busy. Some students may be so busy that they can't make it to our SAT Prep sessions on the weekends, so now we are offering new SAT Prep/tutor sessions every day of the week!
Classes begin at 4:30pm and end at 6:00pm. So sign up for one class or all of them to better prepare yourself for the SAT!

The Columbia Education’s 2100 Club is a challenging, 6 week course that requires many hours of hard work and dedication. This unique class is offered for self-motivated students with a strong background in AP and Honors classes. Classroom time is 10 hours per week, on Fridays and Saturdays for 6 weeks. Enrollment of this program is dependent upon meeting minimum academic and test score requirements.
Columbia also accommodates students who would like extra time outside of class to prepare for the PSAT and SAT or those who simply have extra motivation to improve their score. We arrange appointments that work best for both the student and the teacher.

Whether a student needs help starting an essay or desires insightful feedback, our specialists can provide insider information that will improve the way the student expresses him or herself. Diagnostic Requirement
We require all students to take a diagnostic test. Price: $0.00. Columbia provides all students with absolutely free diagnostic testing as a service to determine their placement into courses with classmates of the same level. We take this extra step to ensure optimal learning by challenging our students at the level appropriate to their ability.
This is a uniquely designed English course for younger students, in which we provide educational material throughout the entire session. Students will be able to review concepts previously learned, and prepare for the upcoming year of school.
English II is the study of skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will develop comprehension and communication skills. Students will develop reading strategies that they will be required to apply during independent and classroom reading.
This course is designed to mainly accomplish one thing: help students write clearly and effectively. Focusing on the fundamentals of academic and professional writing, short formal exercises will sharpen reasoning and provide our students with rhetorical strategies to express the ideas that reasoning generates. Along with writing, this class will also focus on critical reading skills, grammar, vocabulary and public speaking as well.
Learn effective strategies for writing powerful academic papers and performing well on writing skills assessment tests. Focus on the keys for producing successful written assignments: establishing a thesis, writing a good topic sentence, transitioning from one idea to another, and organizing a term or literary paper.
Our students will be working on cleverly crafted problems designed to reveal the concepts behind core geometry topics: triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem, similarity, trigonometry, polygons, circles, area, and volume.
Discover the central concepts of algebra while working in an engaging environment on relevant and interesting problems. Algebra I topics: solving equations, factoring quadratics, equations with two variables, graphing lines, and parabolas.
In this class we work on crafted problems designed to reveal the big ideas behind core advanced algebraic topics: solving equations with two variables, sequences, exponential functions, parabolas, matrices, and logarithms.
In class, we will work in teams to solve engaging, relevant problems designed to reveal the big ideas behind core pre-calculus topics, including: trigonometry, vectors, limits, polar coordinates, conic sections, parametric equation series, and polynomial functions.

Our Vocabulary Workshop is a fun and unique workshop where students learn new vocabulary in a creative and exciting way. Students will be presented with an interesting topic where new vocabulary is worked in.
This reading course will assist our students build competence and confidence in reading. Students will read books often and participate in discussions led by the teacher that focuses on the literary elements such as theme, setting, plot, etc.
Through in-class writing exercises, reading of model poems and discussion of student work, this course encourages students to produce poetry of increasing quality. Students will be encouraged to express themselves in writing in another form besides the everyday essay-writing.
This unique course provides extra support for the transition from middle school to high school English with primary emphasis on reviewing essentials and previewing critical ninth grade concepts in literature and writing. This course will address important high school academic skills: note-taking, managing a calendar and the ninth grade workload, test preparation, self-advocacy and more.
AP Prep and tutoring is available at Columbia Education. This is especially designed for students who wish to succeed in their AP classes in the following year. We offer help for AP Government, AP History, AP English Literature, AP Physics, AP Chemistry and AP Biology among others. Let us know what you need extra help in and we’ll be there every step of the way.
At Columbia Education, we offer private tutoring for students who would like one-on-one guidance by a real teacher. Private tutoring is available for customary packages. Let us know how many hours you need a week and we’ll find the best teacher and price for you.
Small group tutoring (groups of five or less students) is a program that is perfect for friends or classmates to study with each other and a teacher. A small group provides a good dynamic for both learning and helping one’s peers.
At Columbia Education, we are offering an academic reading club to help our students improve their reading skills. Our reading club was designed to help motivate students, even elementary students, to read on their own and enjoy it at the same time. Our reading club is fun, unique and offers rewards to our students who excel with their reading skills and determination. This club will meet twice a week for 50 minutes per session.
At Columbia Education, we believe that being a part of the community is vital to one’s success. Colleges and Universities, along with scholarship boards are looking for individuals who are scholars who are involved in the community. Through the partnership of Columbia Education and Columbia School of English (the only CEA accredited English school in Portland, Oregon), there will be numerous opportunities available for our students to volunteer their time and give back to the community. We can also provide letters of reference as needed.
